The Pakistan flood warning NDMA has been issued by the National Disaster Management Authority, alerting citizens to a possible flood situation in northern parts of the country due to expected heavy rainfall until June 15. Authorities have urged people in vulnerable regions to take precautionary measures.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, heavy rains may trigger local flooding in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. The advisory warns that rivers, streams and canals in hilly areas could overflow, increasing the risk of water-related emergencies.
The Pakistan flood warning NDMA specifically highlights several high-risk districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra. Residents in these areas have been advised to avoid low-lying zones and stay alert during the rainy spell.
In Azad Kashmir, the NDMA cautioned that Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh and Rawalakot may face local flooding. The authority said heavy rainfall in mountainous regions could lead to sudden increases in water flow, making the situation more dangerous.
Gilgit-Baltistan has also been placed on high alert under the Pakistan flood warning NDMA advisory. Vulnerable areas include Gopis-Yasin, Ghizer, Diamer, Tangir, Darel and Gilgit, where rising water levels in rivers and canals are expected during the weather system.
The NDMA has instructed district administrations and emergency response teams to remain fully prepared. Dewatering machinery and rescue units have been placed on standby to respond quickly in case of flooding or related emergencies.
Officials stressed that the Pakistan flood warning NDMA aims to protect lives and reduce potential damage. Tourists and travelers have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous and flood-prone areas during the warning period.
