Peshawar High Court Governor's Rule case

Peshawar High Court Issues Notice to Attorney General on Governor’s Rule Petitions

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has issued a notice to the Attorney General’s Office and sought a response to petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) challenging the imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The court adjourned further proceedings until November 10.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Faheem Wali heard the petitions challenging the provincial measures. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and other lawyers presented their arguments during the hearing.

During the proceedings, Barrister Gohar requested the court to suspend the imposition of the emergency and Governor’s Rule in the province. He argued that both measures were introduced on the same day and urged the court to intervene.

Barrister Gohar further claimed that an advisory council was formed on the same day and that 38 deputy commissioners were transferred. He also alleged that 12 PTI members of the National Assembly and 13 members of the provincial assembly had been taken away.

PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja argued that Governor’s Rule and an emergency could not be imposed without the provincial government’s consent. He presented his position on the legal basis of the measures before the court.

After hearing the arguments, the Peshawar High Court issued a notice to the Attorney General’s Office, seeking its response to the petitions. The notice will allow the federal side to present its position as the legal proceedings continue.
