Punjab spy gadgets ban

Punjab Government Bans Spy Gadgets for 30 Days to Protect Privacy

Lahore: The Punjab government has reportedly imposed a 30-day ban on spy gadgets designed to secretly record photographs, videos, and audio, aiming to strengthen citizens’ privacy and security.

According to the reported notification, the restriction applies to devices capable of capturing images, videos, or sound without the knowledge of the people being recorded. The measure is intended to address concerns over the misuse of covert surveillance technology in public and private spaces.

The ban reportedly covers hidden-camera glasses, spy pens, keychains equipped with recording devices, and similar gadgets. Their use, sale, and online trading are also included in the announced restrictions, affecting both physical shops and digital marketplaces.

Officials cited in the notification have expressed concerns that such devices could compromise personal privacy, expose sensitive information, and create security risks for important installations. The unauthorized recording of individuals may also lead to the misuse of private images, videos, or conversations.

Protecting the dignity and privacy of women and children is another stated objective of the measure. The restriction seeks to reduce the potential for covert recording and discourage the use of miniature surveillance equipment for harassment or other privacy violations.

However, the reported notification exempts laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and terminal devices approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). These exemptions distinguish commonly used electronic devices from the specialized gadgets covered by the restriction.

The reported 30-day ban highlights growing concerns about privacy protection and the responsible use of recording technology.
