Security forces kill 24 terrorists in Bannu during a series of intelligence-based operations launched in response to recent militant attacks in the district and nearby areas, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military said the operations targeted members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to by the state as Fitna Al-Khwarij, following a surge in violence that included a vehicle-borne suicide bombing.
The ISPR stated that security forces, working alongside law enforcement agencies, initiated coordinated intelligence-based operations to dismantle terrorist networks and locate those responsible for attacks on civilians and security personnel. Officials said the campaign was launched after intelligence identified militant hideouts and support infrastructure in the region.
According to the military, fierce exchanges of fire took place over the past 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of 24 terrorists. Security personnel also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the slain militants. The military alleged that the individuals were involved in multiple terrorist activities targeting innocent civilians and law enforcement officials.
The military further said clearance operations remain underway to ensure that no militant elements are left behind. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to tracking down all those involved in the recent attacks and bringing them before the law through continued counterterrorism efforts.
ISPR added that the operations form part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism strategy under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. The campaign aims to strengthen national security by dismantling militant networks operating across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces and law enforcement agencies for the successful operations. He commended their timely response to recent attacks in Bannu, particularly incidents targeting police personnel and civilians, and described their efforts as vital for maintaining public safety.
The prime minister reiterated that eliminating terrorism and its facilitators remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He said the nation stands with its security forces and stressed that operations against militant groups will continue until those responsible for violence are brought to justice and peace is restored.
