Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s Funeral to Begin in Tehran as Iran Prepares for Days of National Mourning

Iran has completed extensive preparations for the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Iranian state media, his body has been transferred to the Imam Khomeini prayer complex in southern Tehran ahead of the official funeral ceremonies, which are expected to draw millions of mourners.

Multi-City Funeral Processions Planned

The funeral ceremonies will begin in Tehran before continuing to the holy city of Qom. Additional commemorative events are also planned in Najaf and Karbala in Iraq before the final burial takes place in Mashhad, Ayatollah Khamenei’s hometown. Iranian authorities expect one of the largest public gatherings in the country’s history during the week-long ceremonies.

International Delegations Expected

Several foreign delegations are expected to attend the funeral, reflecting the event’s regional and international significance. Reports indicate that Pakistan’s Prime Minister, accompanied by senior cabinet members, is scheduled to participate in the funeral prayers alongside representatives from other countries.

National Holiday and Day of Mourning

The Iranian government has declared July 6 a nationwide public holiday to facilitate public participation in the funeral ceremonies. Officials have also announced a national day of mourning on July 8, with memorial events planned across the country.
