ISLAMABAD – The federal government has assigned additional responsibilities to Federal Investigation Agency Director General Dr Usman Anwar by appointing him as the acting Director General of the National Police Bureau (NPB), Islamabad.
The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control issued an official notification confirming the appointment after receiving approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The move is being viewed as an important administrative decision aimed at ensuring continuity within the country’s policing and law enforcement framework.
According to the notification, Dr Usman Anwar, a BS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), will continue serving as Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency while simultaneously holding the additional charge of DG National Police Bureau.

The government stated that the appointment became effective from May 1, 2026. Dr Usman Anwar will perform the additional duties for a period of three months or until the appointment of a regular Director General for the National Police Bureau, whichever takes place earlier.
Officials familiar with the development said the decision reflects the government’s confidence in Dr Usman Anwar’s administrative experience and professional background in policing and investigations. During his career, he has held several important positions in law enforcement and public safety institutions across Pakistan.
