Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has failed to achieve its assigned tax collection target for October 2026, facing a significant shortfall in revenue collection, according to the latest available figures.
The FBR has collected Rs975 billion against its monthly target of Rs1,131 billion so far. This represents a shortfall of Rs156 billion, highlighting the revenue collection challenges faced by the tax authority during the current month.
However, FBR officials are expecting additional revenue through special arrangements on Saturday. Selected tax offices and bank branches are scheduled to remain open to facilitate taxpayers and accelerate the collection process.
Officials expect these arrangements to generate approximately Rs40 billion in additional tax revenue. If the anticipated amount is collected, the overall shortfall against the October target could decline significantly.
Despite the expected additional collection, the FBR is likely to miss its monthly revenue target by approximately Rs116 billion. This would leave the tax authority considerably below its assigned collection benchmark for October.
The latest figures highlight the gap between the government’s monthly revenue targets and actual tax collection. Achieving these targets is important for meeting government expenditure requirements and maintaining fiscal stability.
