North Korea has showcased its latest drone technology at a military exhibition in Pyongyang, where leader Kim Jong Un called for expanding the country’s military capabilities. The exhibition highlighted developments in advanced unmanned aircraft and future defence projects. Kim also stressed the importance of artificial intelligence in strengthening the country’s military technology.
According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA, the exhibition took place in the capital on Thursday. It aimed to demonstrate the technological capabilities of the country’s armed forces and highlight recent developments in its defence industry. Several types of military drones were displayed, reflecting Pyongyang’s growing focus on unmanned warfare systems.
The exhibition featured strategic, operational and multipurpose drones, along with suicide attack drones. These systems represented different areas of North Korea’s developing military capabilities. The display also presented technological advancements and future plans for expanding the country’s drone programmes.
Addressing the event, Kim Jong Un said achieving technological superiority in drone systems had become essential for modern warfare. He argued that military strength was necessary to maintain peace and provide security. Kim also urged the country’s scientists to accelerate research and development in drone technology and artificial intelligence for national defence.
The exhibition also included demonstrations of several advanced weapons systems. Tactical suicide drones and multipurpose drones were used to demonstrate their operational capabilities. Air-to-ground missiles launched from multipurpose drones also struck designated targets during the demonstrations.
In addition, tactical cruise missiles were displayed as part of the military demonstration. A 600-millimetre ultra-precision multiple rocket launcher, named Sniper, also conducted a public firing demonstration for the first time. The display highlighted several weapons systems alongside the country’s expanding drone capabilities.
The exhibition reflects North Korea’s continued emphasis on developing unmanned military systems and advanced defence technologies. Kim’s remarks indicate that drone technology and artificial intelligence remain important areas in the country’s military development plans. However, the exhibition announcement did not provide detailed information about the operational range or technical specifications of the displayed systems.
