Field Marshal Asim Munir to Visit Iran Today for Key Talks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is scheduled to visit Iran on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, for meetings with Iranian officials in Tehran. Reuters reported the planned visit, citing a Pakistani official and Iranian media.

The visit is expected to focus on bilateral cooperation, key regional issues and the prevailing security situation. The meetings come amid continued diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Iran over developments affecting regional peace and stability.

Regional tensions and efforts to prevent further escalation are expected to feature prominently in discussions. Earlier talks between Munir and Iranian leaders during the summer focused on measures to reduce tensions and address the ongoing regional conflict.

Another important issue on the agenda is Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States. Pakistan has been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the two sides closer to negotiations and supporting a peaceful resolution to their differences.

According to Reuters, the upcoming visit follows previous discussions between Munir and Iranian leaders that included the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The earlier talks also addressed ways to bring the ongoing conflict to an end as quickly as possible.

The outcome of the Tehran meetings could be significant for Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with both countries. However, any progress towards renewed negotiations or a possible agreement will depend on the discussions and subsequent official statements.
