Taylor Swift Paid $160,000 Wedding Permit Fee, NYC Mayor Says

The Taylor Swift wedding permit cost exceeded $160,000, according to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who said the global pop star paid the fee for her high-profile wedding to NFL player Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden earlier this month. The mayor said the payment also covered the city’s response associated with the event.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Mamdani said Swift had already paid the required permit fee, which totaled more than $160,000. His comments came after he was asked whether the singer would reimburse New York City for police overtime and security arrangements related to the wedding celebrations.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding took place over two days in Manhattan and attracted widespread attention. The event brought together hundreds of celebrity guests, while police temporarily closed several streets around Madison Square Garden to manage security and traffic.

Authorities deployed a significant number of police officers and city personnel to oversee the event because of the expected crowds and heightened public interest. Officials have not disclosed the overall public expenditure associated with security operations beyond the permit-related costs.

According to a report by Forbes, the total cost of the wedding exceeded $20 million, making it one of the most expensive celebrity weddings in recent years. However, neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed the reported overall spending.

Reports also said the couple donated approximately $26 million to several charitable organisations before their wedding ceremony. The donations received praise from supporters, although details regarding the beneficiaries have not been fully disclosed.

The Taylor Swift wedding permit payment has drawn public interest as city officials highlight the costs associated with hosting major celebrity events. The wedding continues to attract global attention for its scale, star-studded guest list and extensive security arrangements.
