Pakistan Weather Update: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Hit Multiple Cities

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, and Abbottabad, causing disruptions to daily life and infrastructure. The sudden change in weather brought relief from the heat in many regions but also created several emergency situations.

In Islamabad, poor weather conditions disrupted multiple flight operations as heavy rainfall and low visibility affected airport activities. Passengers faced delays and inconvenience due to changes in flight schedules, while traffic flow in nearby areas remained slow after the rainstorm.

In Lahore, strong winds and rain caused electricity outages in several neighborhoods. Power feeders were reportedly damaged due to the storm, leaving residents without electricity for hours. Falling trees and damaged signboards were also reported in different parts of the city.

Several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Malakand, Swat, Nowshera, and North Waziristan, also received rainfall. In some low-lying areas, water accumulated on roads, while electricity supply remained suspended in several localities.

In Swabi, six people were injured in separate lightning strike incidents during the storm. Rescue officials shifted the injured individuals to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities temporarily suspended electricity in some areas as a safety precaution.

Rain was also recorded in Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad, where the weather turned pleasant after the showers. Tourists and residents enjoyed the cooler temperatures, although local authorities advised travelers to remain cautious due to possible landslides in mountainous regions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, most parts of the country are expected to remain hot and dry today, while extreme heat is likely in Sindh and southern Balochistan. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are still expected in upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Potohar region.
