JD Vance has said that negotiations between the United States and Iran are ongoing, emphasizing that President Donald Trump is seeking a comprehensive agreement rather than a limited deal.
Speaking at an event at the University of Georgia, Vance noted that such high-level talks between Washington and Tehran had not taken place in 49 years.
He acknowledged that nearly five decades of mistrust cannot be resolved overnight but said Iranian officials were aware that he was sent in good faith by President Trump.
According to Vance, the reason a deal has not yet been finalized is that President Trump does not want a small or temporary arrangement, but rather a broad and durable agreement.
He added that during his visit to Pakistan, he mentioned that significant progress had been made, though a comprehensive deal had yet to be achieved.
The US Vice President stressed that any agreement must ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons and refrains from engaging in state-sponsored terrorism.
Vance further said President Trump wants a deal that benefits not only the United States but also the wider international community, enabling the Iranian people to integrate into the global economy.
He concluded by stating that he feels positive about the current stage of negotiations and confirmed that the ceasefire remains in place.
