Yemen government forces have claimed control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategically important maritime passage connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. The claim was made by a spokesperson for the government forces.
The forces involved include Yemen’s Giants Brigades and Nation’s Shield Forces, which reportedly took control of positions around the Bab al-Mandeb area. The development comes amid continuing military operations involving government forces and their supporting coalition.
Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, said air protection had been secured for the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. He added that operations against moving targets were still underway.
According to Al-Maliki, coalition aircraft are providing continuous air support to Yemeni armed forces operating on the ground. The support is aimed at assisting government troops as military operations continue in areas surrounding the strategic waterway.
Al-Maliki also said that coalition forces had destroyed 324 high-value targets since the launch of an operation known as “Dawn of Yemen.” He described the strikes as part of continuing efforts to support Yemeni forces during the military campaign.
The Bab al-Mandeb Strait is strategically significant because it provides a major maritime route between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Any military development around the waterway can therefore have wider implications for regional security and commercial shipping.
The latest claim indicates that military activity remains ongoing in and around the Bab al-Mandeb area. While Yemen’s government forces say they have secured control of the strategic passage, coalition officials have confirmed continued air operations and support for forces on the ground.
