According to the Foreign Office, the Guterres Pakistan visit will highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. Officials will discuss international peace, multilateral cooperation and regional developments. Disaster preparedness and early-warning systems will also remain important topics.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Guterres would discuss Pakistan’s mediatory role. He is expected to address Pakistan’s efforts involving negotiations between the United States and Iran. Dujarric also highlighted Pakistan’s wider diplomatic contributions.
Guterres has previously praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. His current visit will also examine Pakistan’s progress since the devastating 2022 monsoon floods. The UN chief visited Pakistan that year during a solidarity trip following the floods.
