Pakistan urges UNSC on Israeli settlements as it calls on the United Nations Security Council to take stronger action against Israel’s settlement expansion in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Addressing a Security Council meeting on the Middle East, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said ending the Israeli occupation remains essential for achieving lasting peace in the region.
The ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding support for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital. He stressed that this remains the only viable path toward a just and durable resolution of the Palestinian issue.
Speaking before the Security Council, Ahmad urged members to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation across the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He said the Council must immediately compel Israel to stop all settlement activities, describing them as a clear violation of international law. The ambassador also called for an end to land annexation, home demolitions, forced evictions, and the displacement of Palestinians. He urged the Security Council to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians from settler violence and demanded accountability for those responsible for attacks. Pakistan further called for a firm rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinian communities.

Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Ahmad said conditions remain severe despite improvements reported under the current ceasefire arrangements. He highlighted widespread hunger, shortages of clean water and medical supplies, poor sanitation, and the spread of disease, saying that more than 90 percent of Gaza’s population continues to face catastrophic living conditions. Pakistan further urged Israel to release Palestinian Authority revenues without delay to help address the growing financial crisis. Concluding his remarks, Ahmad said the developments across the Occupied Palestinian Territory represent a systematic pattern rather than isolated incidents. He warned that continued settlement expansion and violence in the West Bank threaten regional stability and called on the international community to ensure international law is upheld.
