Govt, Opposition Hold Talks Ahead of PTI Oct 4 Protest

Government and opposition representatives are holding talks to address the political situation as the PTI October 4 protest approaches. The proposed long march has become a major point of disagreement between the opposition party and the federal government.

The meeting aims to ease political tensions surrounding the planned protest, which PTI has linked to its demand for the release of party founder Imran Khan. The party has indicated that it remains committed to holding the march despite discussions with the government.

Federal ministers have warned that the Centre could consider imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the security situation deteriorates. The warnings have been made in the context of the PTI October 4 protest and the security situation in the province.

The opposition has responded by warning of serious consequences if such measures are imposed. The Tehreek-i-Tahafuz Aain Pakistan said on X that negotiations with the government committee were underway. The opposition side is being led by the Senate opposition leader.

The latest talks follow a decision for a joint delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the government to meet PTI representatives. The meeting is focused on discussing the current political situation and possible ways to reduce tensions before the planned protest.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar and Aijaz Jakhrani are expected to represent the government and coalition side. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, TTAP spokesperson Akhundzada Yousafzai and other opposition figures are also attending.

The PTI October 4 protest remains a central issue in the negotiations as both sides discuss the political situation and security concerns. The outcome of the talks could determine whether further steps are taken before the party’s planned march in the federal capital.
